I SURE don't miss the furnace

In 2018 Lynne moved 68 CORDS of firewood to keep these cabins "heated" & supply hot water...it was awful

The cabins are an extension of our home and we absolutely LOVE where we live!

Lynne moved up here from Rowley, Massachusetts in 2015 (at the age of 31) after many years of working administrative jobs in the medical field.

Since  19 years old, she struggled with severe pain and discomfort from an eye disease (Keratoconus) where she has to wear both hard and soft contacts...at the same time!   Sitting in front of a computer all day in a humid office was terrible for her.  Eventually, her eye doctor told her that she needed to figure out a different career where she wouldn't be staring at computers all day.

...so she left her 9 to 5 and everything else she knew and followed a fairy-tale dream to The White Mountains!  She had absolutely no idea what she was doing when she started out.  She has managed to pull it off and learned a ton along the way!  It's been an amazing journey figuring it all out!

In 2018, Lynne was VERY lucky to meet Shayne!
They met  at Taco Tuesday at at old dive bar here in town.  Their mutual friend, Margarita, from Live a Little Fitness i (check her out while you are in town) told Shayne to introduce himself to Lynne.

Shayne is a carpenter/builder, stone mason, and an all-around handy (and great!) guy.  He happens to enjoy restoring old buildings. (woo!) He was immediately a perfect fit for Lynne AND for these 1940's era cabins.  Together, they collaborate, improve, and maintain the property with tons of love during Spring, Summer, and Fall.   They are both fans of thrifting and never wasting anything.  Shayne saves every single scrap of wood: you will see them brilliantly used throughout the cabins.  They have so much fun making creative, practical, and artfully decorated spaces for their guests.

They met during an incredibly cold and snowy winter in these mountains.
It was a struggle here keeping everything heated and maintained on top of the normal day-to-day work. Ice dams. Frozen pipes. Loading the furnace in the middle of the night. Shoveling. Plowing. Snow blowing.  Repeat.  Winter got hard.  Winter got expensive.  They decided it was best for them mentally, physically, and financially to close the cabins for the winter.

In 2019, Shayne quit his job and built them out (with help from Lynne's dad!) an old Sprinter Van to camp in during the winter.
They traveled South and West for four winters in their home-made camper-van.   This lifestyle took them on many adventures and experiences, like spending a month volunteering  in Arnaudville, Louisiana or caretaking for a sheep farm in Southern New Mexico, to many other really cool pet sitting jobs.

They have found an artsy little desert town with a hot mineral baths where they have spent a few winters recouping from their busy cabin seasons: Truth or Consequences, New Mexico,

They have made friends and found some work at one of the BEST natural hot springs in town, Hoosier Hot Springs & Inn

and found Desert Haven Animal Rescue, an incredible place to volunteer at!

In 2025 Gunther & Hawk showed up at the animal rescue.

They. Could. Not. Resist.

They have proven to be incredible little traveling companions.  You might see these two out walking around their yard while you are here!
