This is my fourth loooong winter here. On top of all the work that goes into shoveling and plowing for six months straight and trying to keep an outdoor wood boiler going in these extreme temps, I ran the numbers and between heating and other winter-related costs, the cabins actually lose money in the winter.
This winter will be the last winter the cabins will be open.
THE CABINS WILL STILL BE OPEN FOR SPRING, SUMMER, AND FALL!
To all the GVC winter regulars, I'm sorry for the sad news! There are many of you that I know will be saddened by this. I have some friendly neighbors I can recommend to you during the months the cabins are closed.
My Winter "Plan"!
There's not much of a plan, mostly just ideas right now. We know it involves heading
South and West and away from the cold in some sort of vehicle with a bed in the back!
We're going to be visiting friends and family and getting to as many national parks as possible!
For food and lodging, we're planning on doing work-away programs like this: workaway.info
A site everyone should know about!!
And for free lodging and pets to love on, sites like this: trustedhousesitters.com !
